What changes this most?
Growing contributions can be more dependable than relying on a higher future yield.
Sensitivity check
A roughly 10% move in expected income yield changes the modeled headline result by up to $100,000 in this setup.

Formula
Required capital equals annual income target divided by the assumed sustainable yield; time-to-target compounds the current portfolio and monthly additions.
The income yield and portfolio return are independent planning assumptions. The entered portfolio return is treated as an effective annual return and converted to an equivalent monthly rate for the timeline. Income may fluctuate; taxes, fees, capital losses, inflation and payout cuts are excluded.
Editable rates, growth assumptions, prices, fees, and percentages are planning inputs unless the calculator explicitly identifies a current source.
